The season 1999/2000 saw some changes of personnel. Debs
split, and Jack transferred to the Croham Arms to play in the top division.
(Incidentally, Tommy, we never did get our £20!) Terry, after winning
a pub knockout in the summer, was promptly signed up, followed by another
Dave (Dave G) - two more players who are still with us. Another new player
was Ray L, who I seem to remember hitting a maximum or two.
1999/2000 seemed to mark the start of a bad habit for
the Rail View - we managed to lose 8-7 no fewer than 8 times in 20 matches.
Still we did well enough in the other games to be promoted. As a team
we must have played reasonably well because the stats show the top five
players as rated over 60.
The team also achieved its only 15-0 win so far - this
against the Bees Knees. The captain and Terry were drawn for the last
two singles, and I can confirm that there was a fair bit of pressure to
keep the wins going. I also remember the captain later apologising for
being uncharacteristically exuberant after hitting the final double in
the eights. (I should remember - 'cos I was that man!)
Top average of those who played all season was Darren,
and Bob took the trophy for the highest gameshot with his now legendary
119 at the Man on the Moon. (Who else would go T20-T19-D1?)
